Exposition for Prima Classical Ballet Dancer Alicia Alonso, Inaugurated in the Province of Pinar del Rio

Alicia Alonso BalletPinar del Rio, June 21st 2012.  Fifty unpublished photos of the international prima Ballet Dancer Alicia Alonso taken between 1925 and 2011 embodied the exposition named “Saved Images,” that she inaugurated last Friday in the western most Cuban province of Pinar del Rio.

Despite the intense rain, the General Director of the National Ballet Company of Cuba attended the inauguration of the Writers and Artists Cuban Association Headquarters (UNEAC).  She expressed a huge deal of emotion and satisfaction produced by the excellent quality work of these Cuban photographers.

The unique occasion was the perfect spot for the first showing of the newest postal stamp issued by the National Postal Museum, dedicated to the Diva containing an image of her face, from a photo taken back in 1971 by the Mexican photographer, Tonatiuh Gutierrez.

Among the photographers present in the event to celebrate the famous dancer, her professional and personal life were Mr. Alberto Korda, Ernesto Hernandez (national winner of the award in handcrafted arts 2011) Mr. Liborio Noval, Tonatiuh Gutierraz, Mr. Sandro Miller, Mrs. Nancy Reyes, Mrs. Graciela Gomez, Anne Marie Heirich and Luis Alberto Alonso.

The current exposition that was exhibited throughout the most important galleries is a part of the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of Alonso’s first scenic debut in dance.
